WHALEN is the recording name of singer-songwriter Kevin James Whalen, based in South Lake Tahoe, California. Drawing on Americana, country, folk, and rock — and the influence of Tom Petty, Eric Church, and Waylon Jennings — he writes story-driven songs built on heartfelt lyrics and memorable melodies. His debut solo album, American Dreamer, was released October 30, 2025. Self-funded and recorded in Nashville with producer Ken Royster and a cast of top session musicians, the ten-song collection follows love, distance, second chances, and the roads that lead home. Whalen has been an ASCAP member since the 1990s and is the sole writer and rights owner of his music. His songs keep the focus on human-scale stories: a memorable line, an honest turn of phrase, and a melody that stays after the song ends.
